چکیده

With the recent increase in the number of news videos and in their value, their automatic indexing has been anticipated. Among various proposals for this problem, the use of textual data has been actively considered, and some applications of this type have actually been developed. Nonetheless, most of these approaches are textual data oriented, and a few of them consider the correspondences between their indexes (keywords) and image contents which are essentials for an image database. This paper proposes an automatic video indexing method which takes advantage of the characteristic of news videos: similar images have similar contents. The method tags indexes selectively according to typical image content. The method has been applied to actual news videos, and indexing has been successful for between 25% and 93% of “typical shots,” and for between 75% and 100% of “captionized shots.” © 2001 Scripta Technica, Syst Comp Jpn, 32(9): 32–41, 2001

Automatic Video Indexing Based on Shot Classification

Automatic indexing to video data is in strong demand to cope with the increasing amount. We propose an automatic indexing method for television news video, which indexes to shots considering the correspondence of image contents and semantic attributes of keywords. This is realized by rst, (1) classifying shots by graphical feature, and (2) analyzing semantic attributes of accompanying captions....

A Cost-Effective and Robust Shot Change Detection and Classification Technique based on Camera Tracking

Shot is considered a good unit for indexing and retrieval in video databases. Existing automatic shot boundary detection techniques require many threshold parameters which are difficult to select. To address this drawback, we present in this paper a content-based approach based on camera tracking. This is accomplished by tracking the background areas of the video. This strategy can detect and i...

Automatic Video Segmentation and Indexing

Indexing is an important aspect of video database management. Video indexing involves the analysis of video sequences, which is a computationally intensive process. However, effective management of digital video requires robust indexing techniques. The main purpose of our proposed video segmentation is twofold. Firstly, we develop an algorithm that identifies camera shot boundary The approach i...

Detection and Classification of Shot Transitions

The process of shot break detection is a fundamental component in automatic video indexing, editing and archiving. This paper introduces a novel approach to the detection and classification of shot transitions in video sequences including cuts, fades and dissolves. It uses the average interframe correlation coefficient and block-based motion estimation to track image blocks through the video se...

Video Cut Detection using Frequency Domain Correlation

A common video indexing technique is to segment a video sequence into shots and then select representative key-frames. The process of shot break detection is a fundamental component in automatic video indexing, editing, and archiving. This paper introduces a novel video cut detection technique which performs in the frequency domain. It is computationally tractable and robust with respect to sud...
